How to calculate the estimated number of tiles you need for a floor area?
First, you need to know the size of your floor. The formula to calculate the area is Length x Width. Let’s suppose you have got an area of Ten Feet by Ten Feet (10 feet x 10 feet)
Area = Length x Width
Area = 10×10 feet (Floor)
Area = 100 Square Feet
Now you got the area of your floor that is 100 square feet
Next, you’ve to calculate the area of your tile. But for that, you need to know the size of your tile. Suppose you’ve got tile size of Two Feet by Two Feet (2 feet x 2 feet)
Again the same formula goes to get the area of your tile is Length x Width
Area = Length x Width
Area = 2×2 feet (Tile)
Area = 4 Square Feet
Now you’ve got the area of your floor and area of 1 tile to be used. Now use the formula as mentioned below
Number of Tiles Required = Floor Area/Area of 1 Tile
Number of Tiles Required = 100/4
Number of Tiles Required = 40
But if you’ve got your tile size in cm or in mm, don’t forget to convert the sizes in the same unit of your floor area or vice-versa to calculate the numbers
Tile Size is 30×30 cm
Area = Length x Width
Area = 30×30 cm (Tile)
Area = 3600 cm2
*Note: 1 cm2 is equal to 0.001 Square Foot (1cm2 = 0.001 square feet)
Area = 3600 cm2 x 0.001 square feet
Area = 3.6 square feet
Hope the calculation will be of help to calculate the required tiles for a particular floor area
